        GWB’s “nation building” was always doomed to failure, for two reasons: One, there are some places, some cultures, some (*gasp*) races for which western-style democracy is spectacularly unsuited (look at the way Rhodesia has collapsed since the civilising influence of white people was removed, or the way South Africa is becoming your typical African-style strong-man “nation”). Nation (re)-building worked in Germany after WWII because they are suited to western-style democracy (having a foundation in the enlightenment). It worked in Japan and South Korea because (a) the Americans stayed for generations to ensure it took root, and (b) they saw how it works, learned it and adopted/adapted it.

        The West (the US) has remained in Korea for half a century following the “end” of that war. Barry the Bath House Blow Job Boy pulled the US out of the ME before the job was finished. Once “nation building” was the desired outcome instead of “kill their leaders and turn the place into a pile of steaming rubble”, it was never going to be a quick in-and-out. Removing US troops after a decade is fucking madness, and the only possible outcome is the place reverts to what it was before. The only difference being the dirt stained with the blood of heroes.

      It infers of course that the left is high ground, the right is low ground, and everything which follows from that inference.

    There’s a great lesson to be learned by this resistance in Switzerland (CH).

    We’ve been schooled that a republic is better than a democracy because it protects minorities from the raw power of the majority. And to some extent this is true when there is one centralized government that has a single majority behind it.

    But CH doesn’t have a strong centralized government anywhere near to what Washington DC has become. The 26 Cantons of CH have far more autonomy than the 50 American states. It wasn’t always so, but the machinations of the esquire-class has pretty much gutted the Constitution of its constraints on DC.

    In those 26 Cantons the voters engage in direct democracy. There are many many more parties than in the U.S.A. While it does indeed make for more restrictions on minority views within each Canton by the majority rule, it also provides for each Canton to have been able to insist “No Effin’ mosques here.”

    The lesson is that raw democracy works so long as it’s been in place BEFORE the invaders have gotten enough people in to affect the vote outcome.

    The lesson is that republics don’t work when the “representatives” see an opportunity to water down the votes of the people who previously elected them but are now pissed off with them. The republicans (small R) of the US government NEED the new voters in order to suppress the will of the native population.

      As the best of a number of bad systems, the inference can therefore be drawn that government does not work, except for those who govern and those they favour.

      The illusion of the myth known as good government is the by-product of massive advances in our ability to produce. Absent that massive layer of cream which is mostly scooped away by TPTB, we would all see the murderous, enslaving parasite class for what they are.
