I agree Darin because the ‘mistake’ was made by so many ‘experts’ and not caught. It’s the sort of numerical error that should have been quickly noticed by a reviewer.
Something else I have found interesting is the “excess deaths” tracked around the world and in different States of the US. Note that there is not a constant scale accompanying the “Excess Deaths” graphs. If it weren’t for the Northeastern States the US would be looking amazingly good. I’m glad that I’m in neither Mexico City or London!
I live near London, we are now being warned (groomed?) to expect a 10pm curfew to lower cases. Cases? Anyone who tests positive, maybe false positive, is considered a case. They may have received a low viral load which the body has beaten off, or many other reasons not to call it a case.
Excess deaths, more like excess myths. I’m old, I play bowls, every winter I go to five or six funerals. Owing to lockdown house arrest I have missed one and attended none this past year Where are all these excess deaths? Funeral providers have reported little or no extra business this year.
That reminds me of an old story out of UK (from the 1960s IIRC).
Surgeons called a strike on the National Health Service for whatever reason. Strangely the death toll began to drop. And the press was daily reporting on the death toll compared to previous years. Day 10 and x lives saved. Surgeons ended their strike right quick. LOL
Maybe you recall if this real or myth, but that’s the story as best that this old dude can recall.
Initial reporting was of fewer than expected deaths. I don’t know when this turned around! Maybe suicides, missing early diagnosis of cancer and failure to attend GP surgeries for other diseases for fear of contracting Covid? I read that there has been a 80% reduction in the diagnosis of prostate cancer in the UK because of this.

She’s right, that’s another reason to re-elect Trump-

The only problem I have with the article is that it repeatedly claims the miscalculation was a mistake.

Surprised I am not. It’s what politicians do.
