  1. Oswald Bastable says:

Send penguins- they seem to soak up oil real well!

  2. Cadwallader says:

I notice that the greenies are already using this rare incident to argue that off-shore oil exploration ought be prohibited. Typical anti-capitalist crap from the dreamy losers.

    • pmofnz says:

I see the hypocritical pricks are quite happy to burn yards of hydrocarbons getting to the Mount to stickybeak.

      • Cadwallader says:

What happened to the crew? Why are their circumstances of less concern than a few penguins? This would seem to be so in the mindless msm.

        • The Gantt Guy says:

The crew? Are they “human”? If so, then of course their circumstances are of less concern than penguins. They (humans, not penguins) are the enemies of the earth. Won’t someone please think of Happy Feet and his cousins?

O/T, but I see some fool has a dog-whistle about Happy Feet maybe being caught in a trawler. Oh that terrible fishing industry, catching all those fish and maybe, just maybe, one wayward (read – too stupid to know where “home” is) penguin!

        • pmofnz says:

The crew are apparently still onboard. I’d suspect that might be something to do with archaic salvage laws or the like.

          • Cadwallader says:

If it were listing on the high seas I believe that a salvor can claim ownership provided they can show abandonment! I think the Chinese will ultimately claim ownership of NZ by this means!

  3. The Gantt Guy says:

Yup, and in 5 years time they’ll produce a report showing a lot of sea life died out in the Bay in the Greater Generative Period and blame it on “climate change”. When really all that happened is some tosser turned left when he shoulda gone right.

  4. KG says:

A few sacks of kitty litter ought to fix the problem.
I can see a new career on the horizon, as an Environmental Disaster Consultant…. A hi-viz vest and a clipboard, and we’re in business.

    • Darin71 says:

Don’t forget the hard hat and goggles, you never know when a pencil lead might break.

  5. Robertvdl says:

How many ships have been sunk during the Second World War? Now fish live in these ships.

    • KG says:

You can bet that greenloons will beat this up for all it’s worth, Robert. They’ve never set the record straight about their inflated claims concerning the damage the Exxon Valdez spill was supposed to have caused. After all, why ruin a good scare story with the truth, eh?
It’s just oil–wave action and UV light will break it down fairly quickly and it’s likely one howling southerly gale would kill more sea birds than this spill could.

The Torrey Canyon disaster occured 42 years ago. Here is an interesting piece from an Oil Spill Management Consultant (clipboard in hand ;-) ) who was one of the pilots involved in the infamous bombing of the stricken vessel. He puts some perspective into ‘containment’, dispersants and environmental clean-ups…………also preparedness.

  7. Darin71 says:

Oh theh humanitah, all those pairs of Nikes, the silk flowers and Bamboo drink umbrellas, what will the world do with a shrinking supply of drink umbrellas I’m gonna jump out a window now goodbye cruel world.

  8. KG says:

“The front fell off” has to be one of their best.

  9. Kris K says:

    Yeah, absolutely useless.
About the level of response one would expect from a bureaucratically top-heavy cover-your-arse-no-matter-what socialist shit’ole like New Zealand.

Do we see parallels with Obama’s response at the time of the spill in the gulf? Sure seems like it.

Socialism: A disaster looking for somewhere to happen.

    • Darin71 says:

It just occurred to me that we should all chip in and buy the thing.Empty the containers out, patch up the hull and use it to go pirate hunting off the coast of Somalia

      • Kris K says:

I’ll be first mate if you agree to be skipper, Darin.

We’ll need to practice our “Allahu akbar” for when we come to boarding those wishing to ‘donate’ to the cause.

  10. Flashman says:

I’m waiting for the breathless announcement that John Key took a helicopter flight over the scene.

    He will do it.

It’s right there as Item 217[a] on page 331 of the Fuel Spill Disaster Action Plan Operations Manual, Version 4, August 2009.

  11. Cadwallader says:

Completely off thread, but I have just read this year’s selections for the Nobel Peace prize. All 3 recipients are from 1/3 world dumps who are partisan in their respective causes. After Gore, Obama, and Tutu to name only 3 previous winners one needs to ask what is the point of this subjective nonsense? The Peace prize is an insult to the winners of the genuine disciplines.

    • The Gantt Guy says:

Yep. It’s like comparing civil, structural or mechanical sciences with social “sciences”. The first are categories of scientific study while the last is a feeder system fir Liarbore party politicians and social engineers (ooh and don’t get me started on injuneers).

      • Cadwallader says:

A similar atrocity would be to make Uncle Helen a “dame” a “damn” would be OK.
