The age of the bureaucrat–or, how to cripple an army.

A decade of failure
…The support operation was so big that the front-line was almost an irrelevance. Astonishingly, out of almost 8,000 troops, only 200 would be available for patrol on any given day…’

like. seen it in NZ. Still practicing Vietnam tactics, unfocused, overrun with logistics and top heavy with officers.

  2. Nemesis says:

The soldiers are willing to fight but are poorly equipped and poorly led. Led by donkeys is how General Jim Molan (ret) described a similar situation here in Oz.

This current government has cut back on defence, as all socialist governments do, and it shows in the poor equipment levels particularly with the Aussies in Afghanistan. A bloody disgrace, but after all, what can we expect from incompetent government?

Knowing a few US troopers our situation isn’t much better. The new ROE are completely stupid and have done nothing but demoralize the troops and encourage the enemy.

  4. Flashman says:

Unbelievable! You imagined this bungling ‘lions led by donkeys’ nonsense went out in the Crimea or Boer wars.

NZ is perhaps no different – on deployment there are busloads of Squadron Leaders in charge of two helicopters.

  5. wake up says:

Let’s see if I’ve got it right. It’s still OUR fault that Afghanistan is culturally ungovernable. Oh that’s alright then.

    We shouldn’t even BE there.

  6. 10 years ago our BEST had to ride horses- no good roads-

Afghanistan we should have just taken over. There has been no functioning government there for 300 years or better. We should have just moved in and played Cowboys and Taliban until things were sorted.Every single Mosque and Madrasa should have been leveled and not a single Muslim should have been left in authority anywhere. But we in the west have gotten soft.
