childish jealousy, much?

Remember the pic of the giant Weta we featured? In this morning’s NZ Herald:
‘International media are calling it the biggest weta ever found, but New Zealand experts are urging them to get a sense of perspective.
American researcher Mark Moffett fed a carrot to a giant weta on a recent visit to New Zealand’s Little Barrier Island and the meeting has turned into major news in the Northern Hemisphere.
…New Zealand insect expert, bug man Ruud Kleinpaste, a trustee of Little Barrier Island Supporters Trust, has played down the significance of the find.
“There’s nothing unusual to find these weta,” Kleinpaste said, though he thought the publicity for the species could be a good thing. “I think it’s wonderful as long as weta get the attention and not that idiot American.”
…Kleinpaste said wetapunga were the heaviest insect in the world, and the heaviest one recorded was 72g, bigger than the 71g specimen Moffett claimed to have found…’
So this up-himself clown feels free to insult Mr. Moffet on the basis of his nationality (which is somehow relevant?) and is at pains to point out that the biggest one ever recorded was a whole 1g heavier!
What an objectionable little wanker–and what a pointless “news” story.

    I’ve met too many of the assholes–they conform to a type. Leftists, environmentalists, usually bearded and wearing khaki shorts and with an insufferable air of superiority.

    Kleinpaste is actually quite personable and mischievous on his radio show, while being very knowledgeable and helpful about plants, insects etc, on which topics he is quite renowned as an expert.
    He’s also Dutch (I think) …and I suspect that, in this instance, his remarks were a heavy-handed (Dutch) attempt at humour which didn’t work. ;-)

      He should show more respect to Americans. While his folk were collaborating with the Nazi occupiers, the Yanks were doing the hard yards to liberate them. Sod him and his bug buddies.
