I’ve not heard much about it. I suspect it’s due to the last horse-whipping the media received for its coverage of an incoming cyclone, during which the quote of the season was “it’s not a question of whether people are going to die or not, it’s a question of how many bodybags we’ll need.”

After that debacle I’m guessing they’re somewhat hesitant to play Chicken Little.

If Cat 5 hurricanes hitting Florida is any measure – Queensland will get lots of property damage, but few deaths.

Of course, this depends on how seriously the people in coastal areas take the storm warnings…Floridians have learned from hard experience to get inland real fast when the evacuation orders come out.

….and for those who decide against all common sense to stay on or near the beach to guard their property, the police have discovered a very effective technique – they ask for the names of the people staying so they can notify their next of kin.

Queenslanders and Territorians are used to this stuff, Ronbo. Fires and floods are just part of life so they pick themselves up, dust themselves off and set about rebuilding.
Now wait for the global warming lunatics and thieves to claim that this is a consequence of AGW.

Looks like a good tree shaker alright,I’ve rode out three here, two cat 2 and a cat 4.Used the kitchen wall of the house for a wind gauge.Once the wall started to bellow in and out 2 inches that told me it was time to take up residence in the hallway where there was a bit more wood between me and eternity.

The worst part of a big Hurricane is the two weeks after. All that wind goes away,it gets stinking hot and humid without a cloud in the sky and all there is to do is cut damn trees up and pile limbs for burning.http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_sad.gif
