War with China?

‘The US Pacific Fleet’s former head of intelligence used his retirement speech to warn China is preparing for war.

…‘‘China claims that its rise is intended to be peaceful,’’ defence analyst Andrew Krepinevich writes in the current issue of Foreign Affairs, ‘‘but its actions tell a different story: that of a revisionist power seeking to dominate the western Pacific.’’

I remember marvelling at the huge Chinese embassy at Suva in 1982. These guys definitely take the long-term view, measured in multiple decades compared with the West’s 3-4 year election cycle depth of field.

Gosh, who knows. Maybe the Chinese will come to Auckland one of these days… What will it look like when they do?

If you were smart, you would not go to war against the US, but there are other ways…

Maybe a Chinese occupation of the Pacific coast of America, our LEFT coast, is just what this country needs, because the first move of the CHICOMS would be to shoot the Leftists who infest of city and state governments.

How do I know the CHICOMS would do this :?:

Come on now :!: Everyone knows various national Communist Parties hate competition :!:

But seriously, the modern day Chinese are kind of like traditional Americans: Family is important, hard working and hard studying at college, where they pick the tough courses like physics, soft spoken and polite, very much into Western Civilization like classical music – and those lovely Chinese women who really know how to take care of man (I did shore leave in Hong Kong, so know this from personal experience)

Here in Seattle, at least 10% of population is Chinese and their crime stats are next to none :!: A friend of mine who is married to a Chinese woman doctor, an immigrant from the People’s Republic and former resident of Peking, is very happy with new life in the New World. I think she is around 30 and the husband around 60, retired from the U.S. Navy and, to be honest, pretty much a bar fly at our neighborhood pub. I asked him if he worried that she would leave him once she got her American citizenship. He responded, “My Dragon Lady will never leave me – we have a kid on the way for one thing – also, divorce just doesn’t happen in China.”

I didn’t have the heart to tell him she wasn’t in China and may want to trade up husband wise.

Yup,got a bud who married a girl from Laos, first trip to an American beauty parlor and 3,000 years of culture went down the drain.

Interesting article seeing things from an Aussie pov. Up here in the northern wastes of GB we focus on Russia, America, Europe, Mozzies, Romulans and men with a pair. It does look like China is flexing it’s economic muscles. The rest of the world will do what they always do, they will trade like buggery with them until the time comes to extract the pound of flesh. In the meantime wars and leaders will come and go. Regardless of the rate of attrition, our leaders play the long game forever. If only we knew who they are.

China is facing huge problems at home and this is evident by the money fleeing to the west. The Chinese are corrupt and cannot seem to develop new technology (they copy but even that is scruffy). I’m not sure we should be frightened of them long term but likewise we should not be in bed with them as we currently are. In a modern war with the US they will lose.

Going to war will solve at least some of their political problems.
Their copies are getting better by the day.
They’ve been sold (or given) a hell of a lot of industrial and military secrets.
They will only lose to the U.S. if the Pentagon brass and politicians (but I repeat myself) grow a pair.
The current “president” of the U.S. represents China’s best window of opportunity.

I dunno,we deal with a lot of their tools and industrial items at work on a daily basis, their quality has been slipping badly for the last 3-4 years. You won’t see it in western branded tools, the Makita and Bosch items are fine. The stuff from indigenous Chinese manufacturers, even old bullet proof designs like chain hoists have actually declined sharply in quality.I don’t really understand why,all other Asian rim nations quality has always improved over time.

        • KG says:

Because the West will buy shit anyway, and all China’s energies are going into military-use stuff?
