You want a caliphate? Sure, you can have your caliphate – after you clear the rubble and bury the bodies……

      Beautiful!

      Which one is the nuke?

      • Darin says:

IIRC the silver and black one to the left of the fuselage is one of the last nuclear bombs, but I don’t think they are deployed on the B-52 anymore.
However any of the cruise missiles, either in the rotary launcher or on the wing pylons can be nuclear warhead equiped.Seems like a total of twenty four are possible.

  3. Cadwallader says:

Great. If these weird desert dwellers wish to live in the 12th Century why not blast them all back there!

  4. Brown says:

Its amazing that an aeroplane design can be so “right” it may remain in service for nearly 100 years (if the talk about the retirement date is to be believed). The B52’s are all older than the crews although I guess they are a bit like Granddad’s axe.

It was one of the times the Military did something smart. With the advent of modern avionics and weaponry the Buff’s role was greatly extended.

In the picture I linked to,center foreground in the shot is the rotary cruise missile launcher.Around it are the “dumb” bombs and “smart” JDAMS all of which turned the Buff into a stand off weapons platform.

Accuracy deployed 13 meters realized 7 meters range up to 15 nautical miles, but the upgraded set is supposed to range out to 80km.

That means, the enemy can’t hear it,see it or even shoot at it unless they have full theatre radar in place.http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_cool.gif

      • Mark Matis says:

But only if one is allowed to deploy the weapons carried therein. And the deploy rate for US aircraft has been around 25%. Of missions flown. With NO mention of how many weapons were actually used on those missions, as compared to how many returned to base even when some bombs were released. The Russians have done FAR more damage to ISIS in the short time they have been involved, than the US has done in its entire mission. Which is why the Turks are in a lather. Because it is THEY who have been supporting ISIS all along.

        • Darin says:

The Russians have clear rules of engagement, the Russians aren’t concerned by collateral damage, the Russians don’t have a Shiite Muslim for a leader.

So no,we haven’t been fighting Isis in any real measure,if we had they would have been brought to an abrupt end in the western Iraqi desert two years ago.Iraq would not have been invaded and a half million Yazidi,Christians and Kurds would still be alive and well.
As for Turkey,IF we had a real president in the White House they would be having to answer for why they have been buying oil from Isis. The list goes on,we are stuck with a traitor in the WH however and until that changes we are stuck with a world where the only leader is Putin.

This is an article from several months ago, and aside from the wankering environmental comment at the end, actually presents some intriguing information about extending the usefulness of the buff.
