“We have no rights as such are properly understood”

Francis Porretto:
‘..Now that a “compelling government interest” can be asserted to override any claim of rights, it becomes quite clear that freedom — of any variety, not just religious freedom — no longer exists in these United States. We have no rights as such are properly understood; we only have permissions, or perhaps the temporary forbearance of a Leviathan that hasn’t gotten around to shackling us yet…’

This woman is an idiot.

AN adrenaline-seeking mother has defended her decision to scale a cliff face with her two-year-old child strapped to her back – without a helmet.
….”It is the safest form of climbing you can do. I was also in a beach environment surrounded by experienced climbers.”
She said health and safety legislation and the sue-and-blame culture has made people afraid to take risks – something she embraces…’
Firstly, she’s free to “embrace” risk all she likes–but she isn’t free to do it on behalf of a child too young to make an informed choice. Second, she in one breath claims it’s the “safest form of climbing” and then claims she’s embracing risk!

Letting the enemy set the terms:

And still conservatives allow the left to set the terms of the debate and pick their candidates for them!
‘The truth about ‘electability’
‘…The electability question is a liberal media con. It is posed only when discussing Republicans. And it is posed often. The purpose of the question is to cast doubt on conservative candidates and, ultimately, keep them out of office.
….Because electability is absolute, unadulterated, straight-out-of-the-cow bullshit. And I can prove it with two questions.
1.) Did anyone ever ask if Barack Obama was electable?
Potential candidate liabilities: Obama has a weird name. He’s aloof. He’s an elitist. He spent his formative years in Indonesia. His father was a Muslim. His mother was a Marxist radical. He won’t release his college records. He never served in the military. He never held a job in the private sector. He had a negligible impact as an Illinois state senator. He had a negligible impact as a U.S. senator. He had no foreign policy experience. He had no executive experience. He spent 20 years of Sundays with a lunatic pastor who despises America. He’s a product of the notoriously corrupt Chicago political machine. He had close personal ties to domestic terrorists and other unsavory characters….’
Whoever wins the nomination, he will have been chosen by the media propaganda machine and by the Republican Party elites who intend to maintain the cozy two-party duopoly in Washington.
All else is fluff and PR bullshit.

Update: take a look at this Allen West interview. (thanks, Gantt)

Local councils can kill you, with impunity

but they’ll take you to court for building an “unauthorised” tree hut…
‘Paperwork blamed for delay in demolishing killer building
‘An engineer lashed out at city council processes for being “too time consuming” at the Royal Commission of Inquiry today, after paperwork delayed the demolition of a red-stickered building which later collapsed in the February quake – killing four people…’

Echoes of the past. And the future….

‘Artists! Sing the praises of the glorious Gillard Government!
‘…ARTISTS are being offered grants of up to $100,000 by the federal government to create “visionary” works promoting the controversial $36 billion National Broadband Network.
The Australia Council for the Arts has called for submissions on creating “visionary arts projects”.
An initial funding pool of $300,000 has been set aside for the projects, which would have to demonstrate the network’s cultural benefits and the “new opportunities” broadband creates for the arts….
“Artists have been invited to enrich our future with the NBN,” the council’s tender invitation says…’
